In short, I copied a flashable zip file that promises to root the device to my external SD card, but when I boot to recovery mode and select Apply Update from SD Card, it shows nothing is on the SD card. Feel free to ask me any questions. Have you tried copying the flashable zip to internal memory? I dont have the same device, but I had the same problem as you.

For some reason I cant see my external SD card on the stock recovery. It reads me my internal memory as an external SD card.
